WORTH MORE THAN A GRAND AND ALSO MY PARENTS BY JASEN SOUSA
WORTH MORE THAN A GRAND
AND ALSO MY PARENTS
Lived long lives, never met two
who were as wise.
Grandparents are gifts handed out by God,
I received the grand prize.
You always stood behind me when everyone else
seemed to go blind. As a pair, added together,
one of a kind.
In your eyes
I could never do bad. I tried to lead a good life
so I would never make you sad.
My grandfather built me furniture,
my grandmother had food waiting
when I got home from school.
Memories of doggie paddling
on those hot days in the pool.
Lived at your house
as if it was my own,
late nights telling me to get some sleep
and hang up the phone.
I stand with a second set of parents
who are truly grand. I loved you as a kid,
I will remember you as a man.
