EMERGENCY ROOM BLUES BY JASEN SOUSA
EMERGENCY ROOM BLUES
I sit in an emergency room,
wait to get a shot in my arm.
I wonder if I knew I would be here
if I went to a fortuneteller and had them read my palm.
Different faces wait
for a doctor to call their name,
hours pass,
who do we blame?
Where is the staff to help the ill?
They push you out of the hospital,
tell you to go home and take a pill.
A woman looks at the clock
and loudly expresses that another hour has gone by.
How long do you think they would make you wait,
if you told them you were about to die?
