SHATTERED SOUL BY JASEN SOUSA
SHATTERED SOUL
I stare into a man’s eyes,
wonder,
why he has lost his ambition to achieve?
What pain and suffering has he caught
to make him no longer believe?
A face once filled with dreams,
aspiration. A face tries to grin, wrinkles,
perspiration. At what point did this man
lose his legendary childhood reputation?
At what point did this man feel
he had nothing left to give to his nation?
At what point did this man’s heart
take a permanent vacation?
Maybe he wishes
he was once again lean.
These days his only desire,
fill his lungs with caffeine and nicotine.
I witness a man’s exterior appearance,
notice how life takes a toll.
I can only imagine his interior,
and the sight of his shattered soul.
