A WORD BY JASEN SOUSA

A WORD

Sticks and stones might break my bones,
but they will eventually heal.
Words leave deep scars,
and no matter how much time passes,
they never heal.

We are given guns with bullets
and knives with blades,
but they don’t seem to scare us as much
as the yelling we receive
after getting a report card full of bad grades.

“Don’t listen to what people say,”

but I pray everyday just to be heard.
Please don’t underestimate

the power of a word!
