DISGUISE BY JASEN SOUSA

DISGUISE

I made you out to be something
you never grew to be, wickedness underneath
your skin was too deep for my eyes
to penetrate and see.

Got yourself in a heap of trouble,
I covered for you and took the heat.

I laugh to myself when I think
you believe the world is all about
money and pleasure. Stepping on the smallest things
that in the end, turn out to be the biggest treasures.

I took you youngin under my wing
and tried to show you
how to become a man. I did not know
you were a secret architect
trying to devise a devilish plan.

Walking around like an angel,
in the dark you are a villain. Selling drugs
around the playground, no respect for children.

It’s time someone ripped off
your mask and stared deep
into your eyes. I wish I had better vision
to see through your disguise.
