DAMAGED BY JASEN SOUSA
DAMAGED
I wonder what it would be like
if my body didn’t have any scars.
I look up to the sky often and wish,
but I guess there are not enough stars.
Maybe if I walked through each day with armor,
I wouldn’t have as many scratches. Pure
as a new born out of the womb
as soon as it hatches.
Life’s daily battle
has taken its toll,
wounding large parts
of my mind, body and soul,
and even my spirit.
A doctor could give me news of my death
and I wouldn’t even fear it.
I would reach out and shake his hand
and tell him,
“I’m happy to hear it.”
