BROKEN FAMILY BY JASEN SOUSA

BROKEN FAMILY

My family is separated
into so many different sections,
it’s hard for me to figure out which one is mine.

Houses were once filled with laughter,
everyone together.
Now backyards are empty
in the sunniest of weather.

Family, you think it wouldn’t be a problem
to forgive and forget.
That is why I scratch my head
when blood relatives stay constantly upset.

Too proud for your own good,
put the pain in the past.
Always around the table for supper,
now you’re just an outcast.

Welcome to my family.
