Tribute to Rachel Scott

Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America.

It sounds like a weekend.
Bells have stopped ringing,
no one is walking through
the halls, but the kids
have not gone home. They are hiding,
but this is no game,
it is life
taken by those who search
for answers, raising their arms
with guns in their palms.
Rachel Scott’s name
is written on the blackboard
waiting for the youth
to stop being scared , so they can
get back in their seats,
and begin to learn
all over again.
