ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are now accepting applications for the 5th Annual Solstice Summer Writers’ Conference, scheduled from June 22–26, 2009. Our diverse and award-winning faculty members give individual attention and constructive criticism to writers of poetry, fiction (including short stories and novels), creative nonfiction, and literature for young people.

In celebration of our 5th Anniversary, in 2009 we are offering a 5% tuition discount for any writer who attended the Solstice Conference in years prior. The deadline for applications is June 5, 2009.

For those unable to attend the workshops, business-of-writing seminars are open to registration on an "a la carte" basis for $25 per session; or sign up for all seven sessions for $150.

The application deadline for the fall 2009 semester of the Solstice Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing Program is April 27, 2009 (not a postmark date; materials must be received by our offices before or on April 27).

The fall 2009 semester begins with our summer residency, July 10 through July 19. Our special guest and commencement speaker this summer will be Walter Mosley.

Selected MFA classes will be available for audit during the July residency; an updated course list and registration form will be posted to our Web site soon.

Wildfire, ‘07 Solstice Faculty member Sarah Micklem’s second novel, is forthcoming from Scribner in July, 2009. Her first novel, Firethorn, will be reissued as a mass market paperback from Spectra in May.

“The Comformator,” an excerpt from Peter Selgin’s novel-in-progress, is forthcoming this summer in The Kean Review. His second book on writing craft will be published by Writers Digest Books in 2010, and he has two children’s books forthcoming: The Man Who Lived Alone and The Wild Parrots of Brooklyn.
