My Take On The Allen Iverson Trade

Man, you have to give it to Joe Dumars. He wants to win and he is not afraid to take chances. The Pistons could have stayed with the team they had and they probably could have had a very successful year, but in all likelihood they were not going to win the championship. This moves gives Detroit exactly what they have always needed, 4th quarter scoring. Sure, Billups is known as Mr. Big Shot, but that’s all he was good for, one shot. Allen will give Detroit consistent 4th quarter scoring and he will help big time in the free throw department.

Look, in my opinion, Allen Iverson is the greatest little man scorer in the history of the game. No one his size has ever put up his scoring numbers. Yes, he’s getting older, but he’s also hungry. The development and quick progress of Rodney Stucky also factored largely into this trade. He’s being groomed as the future PG and if things don’t work out, Iverson is in the last year of his contract and both sides can part ways at the end of the season.

As far as Denver goes, they know they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. They gave up their only defensive player Marcus Camby over the summer for basically nothing to save money. Denver has been kicking themselves ever since getting rid of Andre Miller. Billups will be productive in Denver, but I don’t really see him as a George Karl uptempo player.

Joe D took a chance on Rasheed Wallace a few years back and it resulted in a championship. Can Allen Iverson provide the same payoff?

I believe he can….
